About Us

We met on March 31, 2007 in line at Wendy’s. I walked into Wendy’s with my friend Nneka and saw J standing there in line looking very handsome. He turned around and we both kind of mouthed "hi". Unfortunately, Nneka kindly said, "Go sit down, I'll order." So off I went to find a seat. Luckily for me, J ended up sitting nearby and after several minutes of smiling at each other he came over and we exchanged numbers. He called later that afternoon and we made plans for the three of us to go out to dinner. After a nice dinner at Macaroni Grill, the three of us made our way over to TGI Fridays for some drinks. Over the next couple of weeks J and I got to know each other better. We said “I love you” and became "official" on April 21, 2007. Then, on a beautiful afternoon in Hawaii a little over a month later (June 3rd) J asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! We had a fairly long engagement and finally said "I do" on July 27, 2008.

We did it!

After a long 2ww* I finally took a home pregnancy test last night and got the answer that we were looking for: We're pregnant! J and I are are so excited! We're looking forward to the journey of pregnancy and even more to meeting our little one next June. Based off of my ovulation date I am 4 weeks pregnant today and the estimated due date is June 21st, 2011. I took the test last night right when J got home from work. The test showed positive results within seconds. We hugged, we cried, we took pictures of the test... it was a great moment, one I'll never forget. After that, we went out to Macaroni Grill for a celebratory dinner and to Barnes & Noble where we picked up "my pregnancy journal". I can't wait to start filling it out!

Woo Hoo with a side of Ugh.

Way back in June we ordered a beautiful couch, love seat and accent chair from Ethan Allen. Three months later they finally got delivered. The couch and love seat looked great, just what we ordered-- that's the Woo Hoo! Now for the Ugh-- the wood stain on the accent chair was messed up and we had to "refuse delivery". I felt bad seeing it be reloaded onto the truck, but I would have felt worse seeing an uneven stain on the new chair we waited so long for. Right now all of this stuff is in storage waiting for us to move to Texas. On the bright side, they've apparently repaired the chair and it's rescheduled for delivery next weekend. I hope it looks good!

It's Official!

This is the month that we officially start trying to get pregnant!

J and I are both very excited about getting pregnant soon and having our own little family by this time next year! I know it doesn't usually happen in the first month of trying, but if it does we'd be welcoming our little one around June 17th. We're going to try to be relaxed about getting pregnant... but we'll see how that goes. J will probably be relaxed and I'll probably be impatient, but I know that it'll happen when it is meant to happen for us.

These next few months will be very eventful in our lives. Many changes are on the horizon, but I have faith that things will turn out great. I'll try to keep the blog updated.

Looking Forward vs. Living Now

I'm looking forward to the future and all of the great things that I know will be happening for us. I'm excited to be making progress in paying off the IRS, it'll be great to be rid of that bill! I'm looking forward to moving to Texas and having our own place. More than anything, I'm looking forward to starting our family. I want to be a mommy so bad, and I know that J will be a great dad. Sometimes I feel like looking forward to all of these things is getting in the way of me enjoying our life now.

I kind of feel like I'm not fully appreciating all of the greatness I have right now in my life. I'm so lucky that I'm able to be on the road with my husband. It was so hard when I had to stay home for those 4 months at the beginning of this year. J makes me so happy, he is such a good man and I thank God everyday for bringing him into my life. We have a precious little sugar glider, Apple, who is so loving and affectionate it just melts my heart. I'm thankful that my mom can watch my dog, Punky, while we are on the road because it would just be too hard to take her around the country with us. I love my family, I love my husband, I love our life.

I'm looking forward to our future and finding out what lies ahead, but that's not going to stop me from living life now and loving every minute of it.

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon - instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. -Dale Carnegie

Awwww!

I saw the CUTEST little onesie ever! I want to order it so I can give it to J when we find out we're pregnant. He loves cars and engines and all that "guy stuff" so I know he'll get a kick out of this "my daddy still plays with blocks" onesie. I know it's more boyish, but I think it can still be considered unisex since they come in pink, blue and white. I wish we were trying to get pregnant now, but it'll be soon enough. I just have to be patient. But there's no harm in planning ahead and being prepared for when the time comes!

Who knew a thermometer could give so much information?!?!

So I'm not talking about any old thermometer here, although a regular digital one would probably work. I'm talking about a basal body thermometer which is more accurate than a regular glass thermometer. It's an ovulation showing, period predicting wonder! Well, not a "wonder" really, but it sure is wonderful!

Here's a little background information on the subject:

Basal body temperature is the lowest temperature attained by the body during rest. It is generally measured immediately after awakening and before any physical activity has been undertaken. In women, ovulation causes an increase of one-half to one degree Fahrenheit in basal body temperature (BBT); monitoring of BBTs is one way of estimating the day of ovulation. Most women have lower temperatures before ovulation (caused by estrogen), and higher temperatures afterwards (caused by progesterone). This is known as a biphasic pattern.

Anyway, we're planning to start a family soon so I thought I'd go ahead and see what I could find out about my cycles by tracking my BBT. Having done my research, I knew what my chart was "supposed" to look like, but I really didn't expect to see it. I mean, how can a thermometer give me all this information?!?! So I tracked my BBT and was pretty shocked (amazed?) that it really "worked"! Here's what my first chart looked like:

So I decided to start a blog...

What is this blog going to be about? I don't really know. It will probably just be me rambling on as I've been known to do from time to time. I'll talk about me.. I'll talk about J... I'm sure our precious little sugar glider Apple will be mentioned as well... oh, and my mini-long-haired doxi Punky... and hopefully I'll be writing about our growing family soon. No, that's not a pregnancy announcement, but after two great years of marriage we've definitely got babies on the brain! So welcome to my blog, welcome to Our Life.
